Bridgehampton, NY – Chase Edwards Contemporary Fine Art is pleased to announce an exhibition of artist Janet Jennings newest series of paintings The Quiet Storm on view, starting September 23rd. An opening reception will be held on Saturday September 23rd, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at 2462 Main Street.

Painting from memory and imagination Janet Jennings’ luminous oil and watercolor paintings are inspired by natural events and landscapes. Driven by emotion, the central tension in much of the work lies in the play between light and dark, whether that be in explorations with color and abstraction or in large-scale landscape paintings. Weather plays a powerful and unpredictable role in these works, appearing often in the form of clouds and storms. The current state of the environment, and the looming force of global warming, has been continually an inspiration. In watercolor, these ideas exist abstractly, in the tension between control and experimentation, played out in line, color, and form.

Jennings’ process often begin with working from photographs which are later developed into abstractions. In watercolor, multiple techniques are often used: wet into wet, pouring, scraping, and dry brushing. Paint is added and subtracted, with glazes layered over each other until the final image emerges.

Janet Jennings is known for her luminous oil and watercolor paintings. After working as a NYC studio artist, Jennings moved to Amagansett, NY in 1981 where her subject matter evolved from color fields to landscape painting. Upon moving to the East End of Long Island the artist became well-established in the local art community; taking up teaching at The Parish Art Museum, Guild Hall and the Victor D’amico Institute of Art. Jennings was chair of the Andy Warhol Visual Arts Preserve Program for several years and was a founding member of CMEE, The Children’s Museum of the East End located in Bridgehampton, NY.

Jennings continues to maintain ties to the art community as an educator, curator and member of the East Hampton Arts Council. Ms. Jennings keeps a painting studio in East Hampton and currently teaches oil and watercolor classes. Her paintings can be found in numerous corporate and private collections worldwide.
