Katy Mixon
Oil Paintings
American, b.
Katy begins with paint as the material for her photographic and sculptural work, re-appropriating the final product as the raw material. Her process involves an intricate system of labor-intensive, repetitive tasks and an acute awareness of the residue generated from her production. With an emphasis on scale, Katy focuses on the minutiae of her studio, enlarging particles of paint dust to a clarity beyond what the human eye can naturally see. Accrual is a common theme in Katy’s work as she continuously alternates between sedimentation and disruption. Katy’s process is driven by a contemporary investigation into material as well as the extensive history of landscape painting and large format photography.
